How to find market share information
Market share is definted as the "percentage of industry sales of a particular company or product" (Barron's Dictionary of Business Terms. 2000, 3rd ed.).
Market share is not formally collected. Some companies track their own market shares and report it in Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings like the 10-Ks or their Annual Report to Shareholders.
- Market Share Reporter in the Business & Company Resource Center Database BCRC contains information from the Market Share Reporter. After a company search, click on Rankings. If a market share analysis was completed on the company of your choice, a sub-tab labeled Market Share will be available. You can also search by industry
- Business Source Premier Database Combine the search term "market share" with the name of the brand, company or product. Joint he search terms together using the AND connect to insure that both terms are present in your search results.
- MediaMark MRI (see the "databases" tab for info on how to use MediaMark) Market share info is found by clicking the "View Summary" link at the top of a Product Report page. This takes you to the Product Summary Table. Choose the desired product from this listing. Next screen will have the market share data.
